Hi I will make a mid week post before I forget. Today Joseph went in for surgery to fix a narrow urethra. It has a bigger chance of becoming clogged and bursting if it isn’t caught early on.
We arrived at the hospital at 6:45 a.m. Joseph was excited because today is Joseph’s day. He gets to have video games and have everything devoted to him. Malignant Hypothermia runs in our family so we have to be extra careful when it comes to anethesia. Because of that he had to go through all the extra medication instead of just having the gas mask placed on his face. When we got back into preop they, including Eric and I, tried to give him the oral medication, but twice he spit it out. They eventually gave him a shot of Ketamine, which started taking effect immediately. They then were able to take him into surgery while we waited. They immediately came and got us while he was still sleeping. If he had taken the oral medication he would have came out of it easily but because of the Ketamine it took longer. They told us to wake him up and I swear if Eric wouldn’t have been there it would have taken probably an hour for me to get him up versus 10 minutes for Eric. While Joseph was still extremely groggy Eric said “Joseph we can go home as soon as you sit up.” He attempted to sit up. Then a little bit later he first said “I am sick” and then right after that he said “where is my game boy.” Aunt Sara bought him a new game just for surgery that he was excited to play. He was able to sit in dads lap while dad played as he woke up. We headed home and within a couple of hours he was back to 100 % consciously and even better after the surgery.
I am so glad he came out of it alright! I am glad you posted pictures. He is so cute!
