BYUI FAML FPP-Equal Partnership, Facts of Marriage

Equal Partnership
I look at the older generations and it appears that the man feels as if he has rule over his wife.  The church has said in the proclamation to the world “fathers and mothers are obligated to help on another as equal partners.”
I feel that it is wonderful to have the proclamation to the world. It allows us to have guidelines in our homes. It shows men and women that they both have a responsibility in taking care of the children.
We must first understand that equality does not mean identical.  It means walking side by side.  In the church some people have interpreted that presiding means to rule over. However, it means working side by side in partnership with your spouse.
Social science research has confirmed that better physical and emotional health, better marital relationships and better parenting will be the results of equal partnership.

Facts of Marriage
Society will have you believing that marriage is boring.  Some people feel it destroys a woman’s identity.  But many documentshave stated that married adults are healthier than non married adults.
As married couples we also need to be willing to have a relationship with our spouse that they will want to continue to stay married.  I remembered an article, They Twain Shall Be One: Thoughts on Intimacy in Marriage, is wonderful for married couples to read. What I get out of it is that if you want to keep your spouse you need to make them happy spiritually, mentally, physically and emotionally.
What do you think makes marriage happy?

Next week we will talk about Marital Sexuality/Bearing and Rearing Children.
